Essay about:
Greenblatt and Showalter on Writing

Number of Pages: 3

Paper Abstract:

A 3 page essay that contrasts and compares 2 books on literature and writing. Stephen Greenblatt, in his text Self-Fashioning, From More to Shakespeare, and Elaine Showalter, in A Literature of Their Own, British Women Novelists From Bronte to Lessing, each offer in their books a particular viewpoint in regards to the act of writing. Examination of these texts demonstrates their considerable differences, but it also shows the similarities that exist between their theoretical perspectives, which are very similar. Basically, these authors posit that writers express their own identities, positions, in other words, their "self-fashioning," as Greenblatt expresses it, through their texts. No additional sources cited.
